I don't have any plans for your project but I'd strongly recommend building something with strong drawer slides. That will allow individual tanks to be slid out without any lifting.

While you're at it I'd suggest a design that allows the lights to be mounted to the rack. That way you can remove the tank lid without fumbling with lights, heating elements, etc.

id say build a book case type deal with two shelves. put a 8" box on the top of each shelf with a false mesh ceiling for lights, and have the tanks sit flush with that and ontop of a slide out drawer. you could make the front of the light portion hinged to hide the front lip of the tank. if you look through the photo gallery im sure you can get some good ideas. ill see if i can some how come up with better plans for this.

I would use birch or oak-laminated plywood along with some oak trim to add some rigidity to the shelves. Use the slides they make for entertainment centers.

Do understand that you'll probably have more invested than building a cage from scratch. The sliders will be pretty expensive.

I know you want to use what you already have, I remember being there myself. I think all herpers get to a point where they abandon their tanks and go with cages that allow for better viewing, ease of cleaning, space, economics, etc.

Correct writing added in CAPS.
