Longicauda question

M n R-Reptile Feb 09, 2005 10:14 AM

I have always liked these boas, and yes I know they rae very variable even within the same litter. I want to acquire a pair for myself just to have them, and have a hard time deciding what to expect from the different colors in litters.
I really would like end the end to have two jet black boas with bright gold/yellow color. I think that that color in longicauda is the best there is of anything.
I really like them, but want to pick out two babies that will turn to look like the gorgeous black/gold ones.
Anyone care to post pics of babies and how they turn out to be? If they turned out grey and black, or black/gold, etc...that way i have a better understanding of their changes and it will help me pick out a set of animals that will turn into what I am looking for.
Thanks for any help/suggestions.
Mike

Mike,
I have noticed that about one forth of my baboes are yellow and the other 3/4 are ether grey, little silver, or brown. all develope the yellow tails but only the yellow babies develope the gold and black backs. I think that yellow maybe be a co-dom type of thing but have yet to prove that it is. a number of the babies that i have are really pale yellow and seem to have reduced colors over all. these animals take the longest to change color but still become black as they get older. so start with one the yellow looking babies if thats what you are looking for. as babies the yellow isn't very obvise but like in other boas but side by side with the others in the litter you should be able to tell.
