Gravid Surinam

sunshineboas Feb 09, 2005 12:01 PM

I have a gravid female Surinam and I was wondering what a normal gravid temp is? All my other boas while Gravid stay at 87-88 deg, but not this girl. She is keeping a constant 84-85. Is it normal for Surinams to stay cooler than Colombians while Gravid?
Thanks
Josh

She is fine. If she has access to higher temperatures, she will take them if she wants them. Let her make the choice, she knows what is best. Remember, their is ambient temp and surface temp and the animals actuall core temp. She may be sitting at a certain ambient temp, but her core body temp may be much higher. In other words; " She may sit on a hot spot for a while and move off and still retain that temp for a good while through thermoregulation. " She should be just fine, good luck.......GOD BLESS.......Johnson Herp

Thanks, I didn't even think of core temps. She does lay right on the heat for a while and then moves off, but she is very good at always reading 84 on the surface.
I was just worried cause whenever I shoot the others (imerators) with the temp gun their temps are higher (87-88). And I wondered if the true redtails incubate at lower temps.
Thanks again
Josh
