Baby Cresties teeth stuck on cage carpet!

DivaDeb Feb 09, 2005 01:48 PM

OMG I was freaking out! I had a small mealworm in there, at first he was kinda playing around with it, puching it around. then he struck to eat it and poor babies teeth were stuck in the cage carpet. I was so scared, didnt know what to do. He was shaking around trying to get loose. I wiggled him a bit and he was set free. Has this ever happened befor?
Should I rid the carpet? I really like it, looks nice in my set up but if its going to harm my babies I will dodge it and use paper towels or something else.
Do u recomend any special bedding for baby cresties?
Also can anyone tell me what color morph phase he is? there are so many dif kinds, Im not sure what kind I have.
Thanks so much!
Have a great day and god bless!

first off, very good looking crested. where did you get it?
i'd call it a flamed harlequin. you could probably keep the carpet and just place the mealworms on a sourcream container lid or something similar so it doesn't accidentally bite the carpet. i've never heard of that happening but i guess there's always the possibility!

you can do what I've started doing and use surgical drape.....I get mine because I work at a vet clinic and also at a barn where we use the stuff....not sure where else you might find it but it's blue and big enough that it only takes 2 sheet trimmed down to fit my 15g tall tank, so less stuff gets under it and as it is thicker, I don't have to worry about Gator biting down on it and ingesting it accidentally. Just a thought...I really like it as a cage bottom covering. Maybe you could get a piece from you vet, the stuff isn't expensive and usually comes in big rolls or in pre-cut sheets.

I have seen this with leopard geckos w/the repticarpet. I just recommend using a paper based substrate..like newspaper or something like this...
