I need to get an undertank heater, any suggestions???

chibicricket Feb 09, 2005 03:10 PM

I want to order a good undertank heater online. I've been heating my tank with an overhead light, which I intend to keep using, but I want to switch it to a nighttime light bulb. I want to be able to see my leo in action, since he seems to only come out when it is dark in the room. Where can I get either of these things online, and which ones are the better value? I want the undertank heater to be as fire safe as possible. And I've heard that those reptile rocks heaters can cause burns, is that true?

yes reptile rocks will cause burns. If you eant a basking rock spot then you can put a piece of slate rock or something underneath the beam of your heat lamp and it will make the rock warm, I use an undertank hater but my geckos don't use it. :P

Cobra heat mats (made by T-rex) are the best. They're the only heat pads I've run across that you can use without a rheostat/thermostat and not worry about them getting too hot.

I am sorry but yo have been misinformed! ALL undertank heaters have to be used with a thermostat. They ALL can reach temps in execc of 130 degrees.. The advertising propaganda about certin UTH not needing a thermostat/dimmer is based on room temps that are very low.. If you try this you are asking for problems!!! Just a fair warngin as I dont want you guys to have crunchy leos when you wake up one morning..
