Two Het Questions

jtmb85 Feb 09, 2005 06:25 PM

Im thinking about a pair of poss 50% het piebalds. If I breed them and there isnt a homo piebald in the clutch does that mean one or both of the hets dont carry the gene? Or is there a possibility that I just didnt hit the 50% chance? Secondly, if there isnt a homo piebald in the cluth are the normal looking pythons hets or just normal looking pythons. Im sorry if these are stupid questions but Im not the best in genetics. I need to buy the "Genetics for Idiots" book.
Thanks,
James

If you don't see the visible het by the second clutch then you can assume one or both of them don't carry the gene. I beleive the offspring would be "possible het for pied" (or maybe 25% het?) but I'm not 100% certain on that, it'd be hard to assume what genes are there at that point.
