Keeping Venomous in KY to be Illegal in April

phobos Feb 09, 2005 06:46 PM

Just learned a few minutes ago...

April it will be illegal to keep venomous in KY . They will be grandfathering animals already here but you need to be able to show that you had them before April 2005 when the law goes into effect.

One more State falls!! Which one will be next??

Maryland is having the same basic law in effect as of June 2006..

What a shame!

...to fall back on (this might be the only way we will ever be able to keep venomous!). It won't be long before every state in the U.S. prohibits the keeping of venomous. About the only state that I can see not banning the keeping of venomous is Texas. Why? Because if they prohibit the keeping of venomous, they will also have to pass very strict laws against the methods by which rattlesnake hunters collect ratters for the annual roundups....seems a bit ironic that the folks in Texas who keep venomous can thank the diabolicle acts of the rattlesnake roundups for being allowed to save their hobby.

As always, the herp community has become reactive instead of being proactive in protecting our rights. We really have no one to blame but ourselves for our apathy.

See you all there.....

All of these stupid laws are going to do more harm than good..... Now instead of a state knowing exactly what and how many of something it has in it, there will be a ton of animals they will never know about..... These people who are supposed to be speaking for the people are out of their minds.... This country is going to be like one of those middle east countries where you cant do anything..... Land of the free??? Yeah right!!! I guess that is what happens when a country is run by religious freaks.... Time to move to Canada......LOL

Many provinces here in Canada prohibit venomous keeping as well.

How hard would it actually be to approach an unlegislated state government with Florida's herp laws and say here, the work is done for you, just implement it and your problems will go away?

As for the underground, Greg may be there, bachman may be there, but people that would otherwise be looking to get into this hobby for the first time would most likely see the barrier and stop.

What in the world does banning hots and the government have to do with "religious freaks"?
I for one happen to be a religious freak and believe me, the government is far removed from religion.
Our motto might be "one nation under God" but making public prayer illegal in schools, removing the ten commandments from government buildings, etc. isn't exactly what I would think a nation ran by "religious freaks" would do.
Now back to the subject. If people like you would get off their lazy hind ends and publicy voice your concerns to the governing officials you would have a chance to stop (or at least postpone) the inevitable bans. Instead you choose to come to this forum and rant about your rights being stripped which unfortunately does nothing to further your cause.
WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE!

I couldn't agree more, I'm not sure where Gregg lives, but it's definitely not in the usa...

publicly voicing opinions and facts to legislators is the best we can do, but I don't think it will be enough.

I'm curious to know what is actually going to be illegal in Maryland, because that's were I'm from and it's already "permit only". Are you saying that even with a permit venomous can't be kept?
