Nest box tips

sebastian924 Feb 09, 2005 07:25 PM

My crested couple seems to be courting, the male is chasing her all around so I imagine it should be only a matter of time before they mate. I have a natural setup and was wondering what the best nestbox would be? I have a hide cave set up on the warm end, and its sitting on moist sphagnum moss. Is this ideal? Also, how can I tell if shes prego, the eggs are so small? Thanks in advance, you guys are a great help!

I use ziplock or glad plastic food containers. I drill a 3" hole on the center of the top with a hole saw and use approx 2" of moist peatmoss as the laying medium. A sphagnum moss orchid bark mix will also work but tends to dry out rather quickly. Some people use coir but I've heard it tends to get moldy.
