Frogs of New Guinea

59herps Jul 06, 2003 11:14 PM

Hey does anyone know any commonly imported frogs from Papua/ new guinea? Specifically terrestrial frogs that can live in a 30 gallon long tank.
Thanks,
Devlin

That is an amazing animal in an incredible habitat. How about a manicure?

I'm sorry, that crack about a manicure was supposed to be a joke, as un-funny as it was. Actually, I don't do manicures, I'm an accountant and I could use a manicure myself.

I think the WTF is really cute the way it looks like it's smiling. I have seen those that are seriously overfed and grossly obese, that can't be good. Otherwise, I'm just a beginner and aside from my FBTs (which I love) and my son's bullfrog tadpoles (which I hate) I haven't experienced too many herps since my snake days as a teenager... a long time ago.

Nice draco! I remember you from some of the lizard forums. I would agree with Derek that litoria are a commonly imported species, but they are notoriously arboreal. From what I can see and guess, there are a variety of microhylids on the island. I am not sure if asian painted or chubby frogs occur on the island, but they are definitely in south east asia. A frog that may interest you, though they are arboreal, would be one of the genus Rhacophrys. These frogs hold the ability, like your dracos, to glide short distances using the flaps of skin between their toes. Reinwardii seems to be fairly common in the pet trade and most are imported (if not all). You could check with mascarino.com as they normally have quality exotic frogs from all corners of the globe. Good luck. Andy
