Dangerous temperature for Corallus hortulanus

Toomas Feb 10, 2005 09:19 AM

My friend talked me about his Corallus hortulanus.
My friend worked at nighttime. He is security man.
At nighttime was very strong storm. When he arrived at morning time to his home, the rooms were very cold. In the cages of his Amazon Tree Boas were temperature about 64F (17C). His neabours talked that the electricity fell about 12 hours ago. Probably his Tree Boas were at cold condition maybe 6 hours he think.

Is it very dangerous for Amazon Tree Boas?

64 degrees for a very short time is not a big deal, I would check very carefully for resp infections. I bring my room to 68 with out any trouble as long as you heat back up after the 8 hour cycle. The temp problem arises arround 30-40 degrees, because the animals and their cold blooded nature may survive but will suffer from brain damage. All in all they should be fine just keep a close eye on the resp infections and keep plenty of fortaz on hand.

thanks

Fortunately his snake is active now. Probably are not problems!
My friend was interested to keep Candoia carinata and Candoia aspera. But he afraid to them after that. Probably if they get so low temperature, they die very fast. In indonesia are not never so low temperatures.

Anything below 68 I find to be undesireable, but the real damage happens below 50.
