Tortoise Law... Please Help if you can

Endgf Feb 10, 2005 11:30 AM

I have an oprotunity to move off the east coast for a year to Santa Fe, New Mexico. I was wondering if anyone could help me with the following: I need to find out if there are any laws that would prevent me from bringing my Sulcatas there and I need to find out if there are any diseases out there that I need to worry about with the tortoises (as opposed to what would be found on the east coast). My entire decision depends on the torts so if anyone can help or point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. I also know that a vet health certificate is required to transport over state lines. Also, if anyone is from that area, please e-mail me, I'd love to talk with someone from there w torts. Thanks in advance!

Endgf,

i would check with NM fish and game or wildlife dept. they'll know. i doubt that there are any established laws regarding exotics there, but you never know.

as far as diseases, if an organism can make it on the east coast, then NM isn't going to pose any problems ;^)
