Morbid Questions

McCloskey Feb 10, 2005 12:44 PM

First of all, I'm not out to offend anyone, or bother anyone. I'm sincerely curious, and would really like to know the answers to these questions.

Is there any recorded instance of anyone feeding a human body to an anaconda, like a guy who killed someone and wanted rid of the body? Or even letting the snake kill and eat the person?

Second, I recently read about a large burmese dying from old age. What does one do with a snake that large once it is dead? My guess was bury it, but I really don't know.

Good lord.

First of all, if there's an anaconda in the world large enough to actually consume an adult human, it's probably not in captivity. A small child maybe.

Second, it's very doubtful that a snake would be interested in eating unfamiliar, dead prey.

Third, there are certainly many animals that would readily eat a dead human body (pigs come to mind), so why in the world would anyone want to do something as exotic and ridiculous as try to feed one to an anaconda.

Finally, even the largest snakes are quite small compared with many animals (cows, horses...) that are kept by the millions all over the country, so it's not exactly an unprecedented disposal problem. Yes, you bury it or you cremate it.

the sholders stop a large snake from eatting a person people have evolved very broud shoulders, but i will not get in to my evolutionary theory here.
also for the people with big animals when they die its called a dumpster for the people with big animals in the citys or areas they cant burry it.

I guess if there were any recorded instances of utilizing a large boid to dispose of a body, it wouldn't have been very effective.

As for disposal of large snake carcases, the dumpster toss is generally a bad idea, It can bring a lot of negative attention to the hobby (especially if giants are banned in your area) as well as there are usually by-laws about disposal of animal carcases. Most Vets can make arrangements, and most city dumps have areas for dead animals. My preferred means is to donate the carcas to a taxidermist.

Thanks for the answers. I didn't mean to sound too awfully ignorant about the snakes eating people, it's just that I've heard and read several times that there was a pic someplace of an African rock python eating a gazelle or similar animal. I had no idea whether it was true or just one of those things everybody hears. So then I remembered that they weren't quite the largest snakes, and started considering prey size and thought, if that's possible, what could an anaconda/retic/burmese do? Anyway, thanks again.

There might be slightly larger snakes, but African Rocks probably do take larger prey items in the wild than any other snake.

I don't know about any of you but if I owned the snake since it was a baby and loved it, Id take it to somewhere to be skinned, and keep the skin as a reminder.
