Morbid Questions

McCloskey Feb 10, 2005 12:48 PM

First of all, I'm not out to offend anyone, or bother anyone. I'm sincerely curious, and would really like to know the answers to these questions.

Is there any recorded instance of anyone feeding a human body to a particularly large and hugry retic, like a guy who killed someone and wanted rid of the body? Or even letting the snake kill and eat the person?

Second, I recently read about a large burmese dying from old age. What does one do with a snake that large once it is dead? My guess was bury it, but I really don't know.

Most people will take it to a taxodermist (sp) and have the skin taking off and perserved and then put it up to remind them of there snake. On record for the killing thing, well im not sure its possible I don't know about probable.

Well,

As for whether a large constrictor could KILL a human being, it is perfectly possible. As for EATING a human....maybe a small child at best. The shoulders alone on a human are too broad for a snake to get it's jaws around our bodies. They would have to start with the head, but once past that they couldn't get any further.

As for disposal after the animals death, like the other gentleman has said, it would probably be skinned and the skin would be kept as a reminder. Also a nice some of them will certainly be buried or cremated.

Thanks for the answers. I had just read some things about an African rock python eating a gazelle or something similar to that, and started getting curious about what exactly a snake this size could do.

ginebig Feb 11, 2005 12:36 PM

Here's the picture in question, and yes it's eating a thompson's gazelle. I don't believe they get as large as say a white tailed deer, but you can see it's rather large. And he does eat the gazelle.

McCloskey Feb 11, 2005 03:09 PM

That's quite a picture. Glad to know it exists - there's so much bad info floating around about animals like this, it's hard to know what to believe.

Insofar as it being a murder mystery, I guess they could scent it with rodents or even chickens. . . The only question is, could they get DNA evidence from snake poop? These are the little details that bother me. lol

ginebig Feb 11, 2005 06:36 PM

DNA from snake poop? Well that shoots that idea square in the head doesn't it? It was fun while it lasted LOL.

kathylove Feb 11, 2005 08:14 PM

nobody would ever find it unless they dug up the whole outdoors!

Does Bill know about this "evil" side of you?? LOL

intrigued to see the idea discussed here, lol

kathylove Feb 11, 2005 11:06 AM

The killer has just a few burms, but they are too small to eat a person. BUT - he cut up the body and fed the parts to each snake to eliminate the evidence! Maybe we could sell the idea to the CSI tv show!

ginebig Feb 11, 2005 12:19 PM

ROTFL..... that would have every animal rights activist thinking that we were all murderers. Might be fun for a while

joeysgreen Feb 12, 2005 05:15 AM

I find it interesting that on the retic forum there popped up alot of responses towards skinning and taxadermy (this question was posted on other large constrictor forums). Just for your interest, I have a friend who had his large boa constrictor skinned and a motorcycle seat made out of it. Pretty cool.

worldsocold Feb 12, 2005 10:09 AM

I would hate that show if they did that. Think about all the bad press we already get and then to publicize the fact it REALLY can Happen? That would be all the PETA people need to show why Large constrictors shouldn't be allowed as pets.

A show like that would not only scare the public, making more work for those trying to educate them, but it'd give the wrong idea to hassled herpers fighting kneejerk bans, NIMBYesque neighborhood comittees etc. Don't wanna tempt anyone.
Besides, it'd be cruelty to feed a PETA member to a snake. Low nutrient value due to an inbalanced diet. And if we are what we eat, do we really want a snake to ingest something like that? ROTFL

Well at least let the retic have some fun first, give it a person from PETA just take it away before he tries eating him and give him a better balanced breakfast like a pig or a another animal PETA seems to love so much.

That could work, assuming the retic in question is a very hearty eater. Sniffing around a PETA member would probably put more delicate snakes off their feed for a month!

It might turn your retic into a vegan, imagine a 20 ft snake eating lettuce heads, carrots, etc?

Or Let them play with your Hots, Either way it would be fun to watch.

I was married once till I bought my first big retic, my wife was tiny also not even 5 feet and just at 100 lbs. I brought that retic home and damned if my wife didnt just dissapear, havent heard a word from her since, still missing

Ryan Shackleton Feb 15, 2005 06:20 PM

I don't know about retics doing it, but I noticed African rocks were mentioned. Aren't they said to eat larger prey in proportion to their bodies? Maybe with an African rock the size of a big retic it's possible but still unlikely?

worldsocold Feb 15, 2005 08:25 PM

Rocks eat Gazelles out in the wild and bigger things. Im willing to bet a big rock could take up to a teenager. If not a smalle adult, like the above guys wife. I think Its possible just not probable.Only way to find out, Throw the head member of PETA (make sure they played with there rabbits today ) in with a 30 ft rock and see who comes out alive.
