First Large Constrictor

Goldrunner Feb 10, 2005 03:23 PM

I would like to get into large Constrictors and I am torn between Burms, Rocks and Retics. I like the coloring of Retics but I want the one that is smallest in terms of an adult MALE.

Which would you suggest?

Thanks

Oh and I also want something "tameable".

If you want it tame, ignore rock pythons almost completely.

There are other factors here at work other than what you want, its what you can afford, what you are able to keep. Its not all size, both male burms and retics are around the same size if fed the right way. Do more research and ask more specific questions.

"tameable"

Hmmmm, well I know of a few golden retriever breeders and I know of someone who just happened to have some german shephard X Lab mixes. I can get you contact info if you like?

There will never be a "tame" large constrictor. These are wild animals. Overall for docility I would recommend a Burmese. However, retics are great and fascinating animals and overall, it will be how the animal is socialized that will make the difference. Sorry if I seemed like a smartass the other night. I was having an off day, and the word "tameable" kinda struck a cord. good luck with finding your first large constrictor.

No problem, I went to look at the herp shop today, no Retics just Burms. Still have thinking to do though.
