Carmichael...or anyone else....I could really use your help

bloodboy128 Feb 10, 2005 05:55 PM

OK well i tried to feed him again....a live medium rat since he won't take anything else....He just ignores it completly has no interest in it at all....so i waited a day and tried a fresh killed rat...still nothing....Then i tired dangling a f/t rat in front of him...still nothing....My snake HATES to have things in front of his face so he never even bothers when i do that.....What can i do!!!!!!!!!! i am going crazy i know it's all my dfault i had him on f/t until small rats then started giving him live and it probably confused him and messed him up...MY temps are 90 on the hot side and 76 on the coolest side....I was thjinking of putting a heat lamp on the cool side which would bring the cool side to around low 80's...you think that could help?

Also how do i present the food to him? Like do i dangle a live rat in front of him./..toss a live rat in there...i mean the l;ast time i even saw him constrict his prey was so long ago...He either slithered up and wraped around it and ate it...or just slithered up and ate it...I think i confused him with aLL THIS switching from live to dead to f/t to live.......so please any opinions are needed...thanks
Jake

Jake,Listen and apply what Carmichael says!I've been keeping
herps for 15 years and have never had the feeding problems you
are having as long as I was following the rules of proper
husbandry.Proper temps, proper humidity, proper feeding proper cleaning, and proper interaction. It sounds like you "play" with your burm way to much, and every time you stick a rat in his face you stress him out!Listen to what these guys are telling you and apply what they say which is tried and true methods.I keep burms, retics, emeralds, bloods, tegus, and arachnids.I have a good working knowledge of these animals, but I still ask questions and apply the advice of people like Carmichael. If you really love your animal make the adjustments and let him feed on his time not yours. One more thing get a dictionary and use it.Your
spelling is terrible and everyone has a hard time reading your posts.I'm not such a good speller myself, but a dictionary helps! 'nuff said.

I just do not understand why you ask the same questions over and over again. I am no expert by any means, but these guys here (some) are. Just becasue one person tells you somehtng in person, does nto make him correct. If your temps are down, well the snake will not eat. It is that simple. All snakes are different in personality and some may eat when the ambient is that low. I do not have the experience with alot of large boids but anyways you should get the point. If you won't listen to us just keep your mouth shut! Your ambient should be at least in the 80s even when coolong it is not reccomeneded that you go lower than that. If you are goign to keep the snake and not do the responsible thing and let someone with experience have it so it would have a good and painless life, then I would suggest you to get you a temp gun and go by the correct temps and do not post eveytime it does not feed.

You are 15 years old, if you want any chance of getting any advice from me, you WILL ADDRESS ME PROPERLY. 15 year olds don't call me "Carmichael". Even my college students address me with respect (Professor Carmichael). This isn't a power trip or anything like that; just one of respect. Jeez kid, when are you going to learn? When you are going to start letting good, sound advice sink in? When are you going to take pride in your writing when asking questions? You say you want to become a vet....you first need to be a good student which includes developing sound communication skills. As you are quickly discovering, I am not answering your direct question because it has already been answered....time and time again. Seriously, Jake, everyone here loves to help each other out but you really need to step back and re-evaluate your situation. Since its obvious you never read my previous posts, which clearly stated that you are too young to own a burm, why do you think I am going to continue to encourage you to keep it? Seriously, enough is enough. I really do wish you well; I mentor many kids just like you and feel it is my responsibility to be a good role model to them but respect is a 2-way street.

Rob Carmichael (and for 15 year old out there, "Mr. Carmichael" will do just fine)

Well when your user name is Carmichael what the hell were you expecting, a formal greeting? I don't think so. One more thing, how am I to know you are a professor, and that you would like to be addressed as Professor unless you take the time tell me all that?

I appologize for my little outburst, I just thought it was a little inappropriate to scold him for something he had no idea about.

All I can say to Jake is, s*** happens. Take the advise you are given by people like Rob Carmichael (they know what they are talking about, I am not saying that ithers including myself dont, just that Rob is more experienced).

Anyone that has spent more then a day here in this forum knows who the hell Rob Carmicheal is. If you can not be helpfull then it would be more benificial if you could just keep your outbursts to yourself. Todd
