Growth rate for a runt Ball Python

gant77 Feb 10, 2005 06:43 PM

I was wondering if anyone has any records on any runts that they may have hatched and how their growth compares against normal size hatchlings. I picked up my little girl in May of 04' and she was tiny and refused feedings for a few weeks. She eventually got the hang of it and has become one of my best feeders, but she is still smaller than the other 3 04' hatchlings I purchased. Unfortunayely i do not have her weight or length form when I first got her nor do i have a current weight Any help is appreciated!

I have a couple of runts from this year. The first is a normal female, from a clutch of eggs I hatched out from a wild caught female. She hatched in April '04 at 32 grams. She started eating fine on her own, and is now almost 500 grams. She has caught up in weight to all of her siblings, even a little larger than some. In August, I purchased an albino female who hatched out at 26 grams. She was a slow starter, and needed to be assist fed her first couple of meals. She eventually caught on, and is now almost 300 grams. Ironically, she is now my best feeder and has not slowed at all. With her, I bought a male het albino, who hatched at 34 grams. He has not been as good an eater, he is now still only at 150 grams. Each animal is different, but all worth it.

I hatched out a little {very little} striped male that was soo small I thought for sure I would loose him . He refused food for over a month and then I became worried because he started moving more slugish then the other hatchlings , so I attempted to force feed him but once the pink was in his mouth he started gobbling it down like he was starving , which he probably was so I didnt have to do much work to do cause we all know how much force feeding $uck$ . After about three times of me putting a pink in his mouth and him sucking them down like a maniac I attempted to throw a pink in his enclosure and he grabbed it no sooner it hit the bottom of the tub.. After that he never refused a meal again and is pretty much caught up with the other offspring from the same clutch which is amazing because this guy was the smallest runt Ball Python I have ever seen in my life .. Now if I only knew how to post pics on this forum I would love to share pics with everyone .. He is a possible double het from a het ghost to a het albino full stripe ..
