please help me with coccidia...

joijoi29 Feb 10, 2005 07:31 PM

As I thought...little Dezi has a high count of coccidia. Doctor put her on Albon (0.2ml once then 0.1ml for 6 more days). I keep hearing about a probiotic??? what is this, what does it do and where can I find it?

I was suspicious of parasites b/c she is small and I feel a little underweight. She had become a little more restless than usual. Then her stools were a bit too soft. Sure enough..I finally got a sample off to work and we found it. She is eating really well (has been all along) but seems dark alot. She's active and alert. I have changed from shelf liner to newspaper so I can just toss everything out. I did leave her hammock b/c its plastic and I can clean it easily. How do I disinfect her driftwood? Big problem is she wont drink off her nose, wont drink when being sprayed and although i do soak her she wont drink there either. I always soak her pellets and she eats them well so i hope thats enough for hydration. Hard enough to get meds down her let alone more fluids by syringe. BTW...any tricks to getting their mouths open??!?!

sorry so long...

TIA
Marilee

Acidophilis is the probiotic that's best and you can find a link to a supplier at reptilerooms.com usually it is the featured product on the main page you'll see it.... If you don't want ot wait for it you can also use yogurt with active cultures as well.

As for the syringe thing....LOL.... I have to say first be VERY carefull when doing this ...... take one side of the end of the syringe and place it on the top part of the lower jaw and useually they will open up fairly easy and when they do stick the end in thier mouth... after a few times most will become accustomed to it and open up much easier for you. I also hold thier head on each side while doing this as they can jerk away causing injury. Hope your baby gets rid of the bugs!
