Weird Problem

databer Feb 10, 2005 09:52 PM

I have a few baby Indian Pythons, and they all do the same weird thing. I give them a (dead) mouse, they strike at it, then constrict it. But, then, they release it without eating. Sometimes I have to present the mouse to them about 5 times. This is getting to be a real pain. Anybody got any ideas? Maybe they are just retarded!

Are you standing over them watching? Try leaving them alone after the initial strike. Also consider seperating them during feeding. I feed my baby boas by placing them in a small non-transparent rubbermaid, then after they strike I'll put the lid on. (If snapping the lid is distracting or the tail is sticking out I'll just rest the lid on top and monitor from a distance)

No, I'm not standing over them, I leave the room. They are all housed separately. Thanks.

I had a baby albino burmese python that would do that. I tried giving him a equal sized rat and he ate it up. He just preferred rats, I suppose. I also had a ball python that did the same thing with mice and took rats and ate them with joy. Perhaps, a rat will do the trick.
