Acrylic cages for arborials???

sam4snakes Feb 10, 2005 09:55 PM

Does anyone know how to glue lexan or plexiglas together to make a right angle. I am thinking of a totally lexan enclosure with no supports in the corners, just lexan to lexan joints...Can this be done by the novice??

Thanks

Solvent welding Plexiglass/acrylic and Lexan/polycarbonate edge to edge is actually pretty easy. The hard part is getting the edges prepped properly to allow for a proper bond. But yes, it can be learned by the novice.

I have visited a couple of plastics shop that specialized in making acrylic displays, podiums, etc. In both cases they told me that they would cut acrylic for me and prep the edges if I did not feel comfortable doing it myself. I decided acrylic was not the right material for me so I never took them up on the offer. It's something you can look into, though.

But really, there are numerous websites on building acrylic aquaria for the novice. If an amateur can build a 100 gallon tank that does not leak I'm sure you can build something that will hold a reptile.

Try Google.
