As a neonate through yearling, it needs to be upwards of 85. As it gets longer, say over 3-4 feet, it can be dropped to 80. 83 is a good generic answer, however the reason smaller snakes need higher temperatures is because they have less surface area to absorb the heat produced, so if it's warmer they can absorb it easier.
