Hunger strike?

SuperGeckoberry Jul 07, 2003 02:08 AM

I have a 1 year old male albino. He started out eating regularly. However, for the past few months he has been eating only like 3-5 mealworms per week. I wasn't worried at first because he wasn't losing weight and his poo was normal and regular; plus I heard that leos will go periods of time w/out eating.

Now I'm getting a little worried. I didn't expect the hunger strike to last this long. I weighed him last night and he lost 3 grams and looks thinner. Is this normal for a gecko to eat so little for a long period of time? I heard that leos slow down food intake during the winter, but is it common for them to slow down in the summer too?

It isn't common for leos to stop eating for long periods of time, although it is fine for them to go off food for maybe a week every once in a while. If he has not been eating for a while, he may be sick. Check your setup and make sure your temps are fine, that he has plenty of room, and that there are enough hides.
