RES and Cooter Breeding??

nekot076 Feb 11, 2005 11:29 AM

I have a RES and a Cooter that are showing signs of breeding with each other. I know that they are not yet mature enough to actually fertilize eggs but Im curious if it is common for these to species to show an interest in each other.

The specific actions they are doing is the female RES sits on the bottom of the tank and the male cooter waves his arms in front of her and then mounts her.

Please give me a reply if anyone has additional info. thanks in advance.

They will most certainly mate with eachother. I am not sure if such a mating will yeild viable eggs but they are similar enough in their mating habits to accept advances from the male. My Florida cooter has mated with a map turtle male, a slider male and even a diamond back terrapin (which was really kind of bizarre). She gets around!! LOL!!
