RUN OUT OF SOLUTIONS

kittycatgurl36 Feb 11, 2005 02:57 PM

Well my skink has been consatntley (during the day that is) scratching at the side of his terrarium. I read somwhere that this was cuz his terrarium was too small. I had been needing a bigger one nay way so i got a one probably about twice the size. I got more sticks, caves, rocks all that jazz and he still does it all the time! He just doesn't get that there is glass there. I don't want him to spend all day like that when he has so much stuff to play on. Are thee any other solutions to keep him happy? PLEEZ REPLY!

What kind of skink, how large and what are you keeping it in?

It's a schneider's skink and I"m keeping him in a 36x18x16 terrarium. But getting a bigger one is not an option. I just obtained this one and it wasn't cheap. I haven't even seen a bigger one in any of the pet stroes i go to.

Use colored construction paper around the bottom of the enclosure at an appropriate height to block your animal from seeing out. By not being able to see an "escape" through the glass, this will often curtail nose rubbing behaviors.

Thanks I'll try that. I thought of covering the sides once but thoguht knew it would obstruct my view of the terrarium but I never thought of just covering the bottom.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it if his nose looks in good shape...
