basilisk death

grnbasilisk Jul 07, 2003 03:42 AM

well, here's just another precaution you may want to think about whenever taking your lizards out. my 6 month old green basilisk managed to escape from his cage yesterday through a pretty small hole in the cage. i searched my very messy room and finally found him. IN THE BOX FAN ON THE FLOOR. yeup, he climbed in there and got hit and died. damn thing. of course it is my fualt that it died because one, i shouldn't have had any possible way for it to get out. and two i had actually thought about the fan causing a problem light this. now the fan is not only covered with the plastic cover ( which was on there before but not small enough spaces), but also it is screened in.luckily i still have one basilisk and everything else i have wouldn't be able to get into a fan. just thought you all might like a different way to keep your reptiles safe.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Bassies are quite amazing escape artists, I had one escape through a hole that the light cords fed through. It was only about an inch square, and had wires running through it, and she managed to squeeze all 23 inches of herself through it. Luckily, we found her sitting on top of the cage unharmed.
