Anyone hatch out Ringers with there Piebald breedings?

DavidKendrick Feb 11, 2005 05:06 PM

I have heard that some breeders find ringers more often when they breed there piebalds and het piebalds, I was just curious if anyone had done so? I know most breeders don't think twice about ringers, but I just can't stop thinking about them, They have so much in common with piebalds, like the orange wash on the babies, some even have good amounts of white. Not too many people seem to talk about them, is there just no intrest in them? I was curious what people thought? My pair of ringers are getting ready to breed, I am thinking about waiting till next year, this will be there first breeding. Here are some old pics of them.

I've only hatched out one good ringer and he happened to be a 25% chance het pied out of a 50% chance het pied with the marker. However, about half of the babies I've ever produced where from pied projects so maybe it's just random odds.

the lowest form of piebalds to me, The orange wash, the white, its so simular to the piebalds, Yet nobody thinks they are. I guess time will tell, at one time they thought that piebalds where not genetic too, I guess we will see, I guess I am just a dreamer..LOL Thanks for the reply and the pic.

Maybe the pied het marker is the lowest form of pied. Maybe some of the ringers are extreme het pieds, so extreme that they are a little pied. I also think at least some ringers are completely unrelated. I guess the question is if any of them are related to the pied gene.

Here is the best belly pic I could find. I sold him soon after he hatched in 2003 to a lady from Wyoming who wanted him as a pet. I tried to talk her into breeding him but it didn't sound likely.
