whites tree frog not sticking to glass

mroberts Feb 11, 2005 10:46 PM

I just got my first whites tree frog, and it's not sticking to the glass, is that normal?
he sleeps in a wooden cave and refuses to eat pinkie mice..
he did eat a few crickets but was soon back in his cave.
I have it in a 10 gallon tank with a 'night' bulb (one of thoes red ones) its a 40 watt because I didn't want to cook him
in the day it is 75-80 and at night never below 70
why is he not climbing??

The wattage of the bulb is right, I believe the rule of thumb is 5 watts per gallon. As for hiding, if the cage is too dry, White's will often hide in caves and under trees. Make sure the humidity is around 50%. Also you should try getting a day bulb instead of a night one, as WTF need a photoperiod. They're not like some lizards that don't need day and night simulated. That may help coax your WTF to come out. If not, perhaps he's just shy!
Good luck!

will a standard fish tank light be okay for a photo period?
I have the humidity at 80%, the frog even seems to prefer to just cling to my hand, so I know it can cling to things it just prefers to be in it's dish or under it's wooden log on the bottom of the tank.
if anyone can help me it would be great!
thanks
