How on Earth is force feeding her a pinkie going to cure her of green poop? Does the vet think she is a snake? Usually I would say go with what the vet says, but in this case I think the vet is wrong. You only force feed leos that are very thin and not eating, and in that case you feed them tiny bits of easily digestible food - not a whole solid pinky mouse. What did the vet say about the green poop anyway?
Yeah thats kinda strange... I wouldent even feed a emanicated(sp) leo a pinky.. Maybe some wax worms for alittle boost but not a pink...

Yellowconda, you know where you might get some help is the Herp Health forum (here on kingsnake). Tell them all about the green poop and what your vet says. They talk all about that kind of stuff. There seem to be some very knowlegeable people even maybe vets that post there. I'm putting the link to the forum here.

The gecko is a large adult, she is not emacieted, the vet said the poop sample was clean. I have heard a lot about different possible causes for the green poop. I tried to encourage her to eat the pinkie, but to no avail. Her weight is not skinny, but she has a slightly thin tail, I was thinking it would be good to get her eating so she could build some weight. environmental factors, the vet sayd she might go on protest for food for quite s while. She also must have eaten something because there was stool in her bowels and it was not green. I dunno, I have had some experience with leo's never seen this. I'm gonna just keep wax and mealies in there toy with temp and wait. try and feed her in a couple days.
Why would you toy with the temp, are you trying to stress your gecko out even more??? Just put it at 88-90 on the warm side and mid 70's on the cool side... that is all they require.
I wasn't implying on stressing out gecko by temp fine tuning, I have sufficient heat, but the way it is dispersed. In short, I have close to the right temps, but am trying to make temperature gradient a little less warm on one side, I have taken temps at several different places in the cage, all spots were in the 85-90 temps with most of the 90 on one side of the enclosure, the other side I am working on getting it closer to the mid seventies. Leo Geo I would appreciate it if you would not imply that I want or am trying to stress gecko out. I have never had a sick gecko before, or one that suffered from habitat stress (ie, moving, thinking geck was sick, doctor visit.) Anyways, I really appreciate all the advice that you guys give, I have had lizards for over ten years and I am still learning. Thank you again.
ummm... not to state the obvious but this thread is about sick YOUR leo!!! I wouldn't have guessed you have kept reptiles for 10 years if you even considered FORCE FEEDING when it has green feces. Force feeding is basically for the last possible resort when, in your case, a simple anti-botic would cure it. If you did keep reptiles for 10 years you would know how to force feed... so why lie?
First of all, I have to prove nothing to you, would like to keep friendly on this thread, I have kept lizards and other herps for 10 years. I have never force fed my animals. MY ANIMALS HAVE NEVER BEEN SICK!! MY ANIMALS HAVE NEVER NOT ATE!!!! Until this one, whom I just got about three weeks ago. My vet advised me to try force feeding, because he was worried about her getting to weak to eat, he gave her electrolytes and vitamins, and said to try and poke the pinkie down. I think he was hoping that it would get her appetite up. I do not want static with other people on the thread.
I hate to argue, don't like to spend my spare time fighting over computers, (got better things to do! like kids) So I would love it if you could keep your responses a little less hardcore LEOGEO. I am trying to improve my geckos life, and learn some things, Don't call me a liar
Im sorry, i was out of line. But it seemed sort of unbelievable that you kept reptiles for ten years and never read anything about force feeding. A good book for you would be "Under standing reptile parasites" by Roger J. Klingenberg. It has all sorts of stuff, like force feeding, different medicines, almost anyting about parasites, its really cool.
I will try to find that book, it sounds very helpful. I am new to this and I can see that you really care about these animals. I do too, I love em', look forward to trading secrets and advice in times to come.
Take her for the Fecal Test, or find an better vet and as most of you know, there is hard to get by with good vets for reptiles. Force feeding won't help. I know that Bytrail will help but just got to check with vet.
