need help now please- bad constapation problem

deetu Feb 12, 2005 08:40 AM

We moved Merlin into my son's room. It is a little cooler there but we added a black light for heat.

My son asked me to soak him on Thursday so I gave him a bath. White urates came out but he was straining and nothing else came out. No usual green mass. I soaked him twice that day, expecting him to go the next day. He didn't. I soaked three times yesterday and gave him a couple of vegetable oil soaked crickets. This morning I soaked him again. White urate came out but again he was straining with nothing else.

We are going to the vet at noon today but unfortunately, reptiles are not her specilty. I am sure he needs to get an enema at this stage (my son informed me he hasn't gone in two weeks) and was hoping anyone with dragon knowledge can give me advice that I can suggest to her. What to use, how to do it? I know sometimes they can die from this.

Please help on this short notice.

If anyone could give suggestions for the future, I would appreciate it. I have instructed my son that he HAS to give him more frequent baths since he doesn't drink water. He HAS to keep count of how frequently he goes. AND he HAS to take him out more for more excercise. We are also going to move him back downstairs so I can keep an eye on him.

Sounds like you pretty muich have it covered....

frequent soaking, keeping an eye on things, and good basking spot/ambient temperatures are the way to go.

Also, it might be worth your while to take a fecal sample to the vet, some parasites cause constipation. Fecal samples only cost about 20$ at the most and can be very useful even if there isn't a problem.

Merlin had really bad worms when we got him. Then coccidia after that. It took about a year to clear him up (bad vet)
Sometimes I think he has problems because of that.

I really think he doesn't get enough water and we will be moving him so it will be hot enough for him.

Thank you for taking the time to give me advice
