fly ash

nydon Feb 12, 2005 08:53 AM

several posts ago someone asked about fly ash being harmful to monitors and thought it was a by product of natural minerals. The thought was that it should be ok. I was curious so i did some checking and what i found was that it was a COAL COMBUSTION BYPRODUCTS from fossil fuel used in cement and in soil to aid compaction. I do not have a clue but it did not sound so healthy to me and you may want to research it a bit more before using it . Of course this may just be another gag that seems to be a big part of the forums agenda. If its not a spoof but a real question then check it out and if it is just another spoof then, good one, you got me again.

it sounds almost like something added under the theory of (this is my own random guessing here..) the combustion baring some resemblance to perhaps a volcanic event. the ash from volcanic events is supposed to be extremely fertile, which would be why areas around active volcanoes are so very green. most "ash" is just some sort of carbon, and very unlikely to be harmfull.

i am not sure what you mean by random guessing and i read nothing about fly ash being associated with volcanoes so i am not sure that would apply to the original question. I know nothing about fly ash but the post caught my interest so in the sake of improving my own knowledge i simply typed in fly ash at yahoo search engine and i got a lot of industrial sites that talked about it. You should be able to do the same. I may be wrong but it was my impression that this petroleum by product had been difficult to "dispose of" in the past but research has developed several methods such as mixing it in concrete as a filler. They even give awards for buildings who use the material in their construction Sooooo to me it does not sound so healthy but it was a 5 minute research for me and someone who is more knowledgeable can help you better. I simply figured that some information may be better than no information.

i'm saying it likely has similar properties, because its created in a similar explosive enviroment, which is why they would advertise it being in the soil they sell. reading up on it tells you pretty straight-forward what it is. its ash created when burning off coal. I've never heard of any sort of ash being potentially harmfull, once its been reduced to pure ash there really arnt any chemicals left in it. Ash = Carbon.
