Uroplatus peitschmanni prices

DerekMoynihan Feb 12, 2005 12:05 PM

What's up with these prices. 2 weeks ago I saw 1.3 corkbarks for $550, 3 weeks ago I saw them for $150 each. Today I see a pair for $550. The price range is suspiciously very wide. Have the prices the importers are paying increased that much, or are they just using this Cites thing to gouge?

certain people are trying to get way more out of the animals than they pay for them. i would safely say the prices for importers had close to doubled from the place that i usually get mine from, they went from 35-50 ( for the different species) about 10 months ago, to 55-75 ( and ranging from 75-150 for corkbarks) they sell out of all uroplatus within a matter of 2-3 days. 100 dollars is a fair price for a very healthy, good colored import that you trust the seller or can get good feedback.
i've seen several pretty good deals on cb uroplatus ( from neil meister) and a couple of other people on the classifieds recently. just make sure if you're buying satanics they're atleast 3-4 months old. otherwise you're going to have some VERY tiny geckos.

I was at a show today and saw some Uroplatus for ok prices, U.ebenaui $125 ea. for males and females, and $135 ea. for clouded U.sikorae, and 135 for U.fimbriatus. I think that there are some importers out there trying to get as much as they can from the Uros. but that's the trade I guess. Nothing you can really do.

sucks for you guys! when i went to the show at the end of last month, i found a guy selling sikorae, lineatus, and fimbriatus for $50 a piece. of course thats where i snatched up my pair of sikorae. there was another guy at the show trying to sell sikorae for $200 a pair, but i did get a very nice henkeli from him (although dehydrated) for $80. i got real lucky there, i didnt even expect to see any uroplatus at all!

anyway, as far as the price on pietschmanni, i noticed the price as well. like others have said, prices have gone a bit wild since the whole CITES appendix II was mentioned, but theres still a few people out there selling them at normal prices. i have a trio, and i got a female from russ gurley for $150 and later i found a pair at the local reptile show for $200. so i would say $100 to $150 a piece WAS the normal price. i woulda grabbed a male while that ad was up for $150 a piece from reptile depot, but i recently spent a lot and couldnt afford it at the moment. i still need a male, but im not gonna pay anything near $550 plus shipping for a pair, unless it was an unrelated, young but sexed, and CB pair. even then i dont think it would even cost that much from neil meister, but i dont think hes selling any of those at the moment anyway. they'll pop up here and there, so i say do like i've been doing for a while now, just sit and wait for the right deal to come up.

almost all of the adds in the classifieds are crap, but like i said, the place i usually get mine from are 50-65 for satanic, ebenaui, sikorae, lineatus, and fimbriatus. only downside is they sell out REAL fast.

I charge depending on quantity recieved, and rarity. Corkbarks are supposedly being shut down in three to four months as were henkeli.
Atleast for this year.
I sold a 1.3 group of Corkbaks for 550.00 which was a very decent price and I am actually kicking myself for selliing them that cheap, that averages to about 137.00 a gecko....
The corkbarks will bring alot more money now than ever, and it is becuase of the rumor of not being able to get them anymore in a few months and because of the remote little area they are found along with the CITIES listing.
Also I am being charged double if not a little more than I used to pay for them straight from Madagascar.
500.00 a pair, seems to steep though , I think a fair price considering the factors would be 300-350.00 a pair from now on.

Thanks for all the input guys. I wonder if the quotas for pietschmanni have already been filled for this season. I know Reptile Depot got a shipment of Uros last week and they did not get any corkbarks.
