On which tegus you are referring too. Arg. Reds need more fruit to aid in shedding than say black & whites. Blues pretty much follow the black and white diets, though tend not to take too veggies as easily as B/W's. Age can also play a factor, as younger/babies need more meat protein and fruits are not readily eaten by younger ones.

Reds love strawberries, bananas, melons, apples, grapes for instance are good staples as far as fruits. Veggies can consist of potatoes, peas, green beans, some squash (summer/yellow). Bert at agama international (do a search for it on yahoo, etc) feeds his a ton of mashed potatoes and his site offers valid and empirical research findings on black and whites' diet. Ron St. Pierres www.bluetegu.com (i think that's still it) offers general diets for reds and blues.

Now columbian b/w's and guyana golds tend not to eat fruit or veggie matter too often, though most of the golds I've had will eat the san diego zoo diet on occassion which has fruits mixed in.

Good luck!!!

Greg

Hi there! He should start eating fruits pretty soon then. You can mix thawed frozen strawberries into the San Diego Zoo diet.
This is typically 2 lbs, ground turkey (raw), 16 0z. of the strawberries (mashed), 1 tbs of herpavite and 2 tbs of calcium-Vit. D3, mixed together into a meat-loaf consistency. For his age, the loafs should be about 2" square. Feed him this 2-3 times per week. He should start eating fruits straight too around 8 months to a yr. old. Reds generally love bananas, strawberries, mango, and some will eat apples. They need the fruit content, either in the SDZ or straight to aid in shedding a lot more so than say Black & Whites, Blues, or Columbians.

Good luck!
