New to Ratsnakes!!

CJinNH Feb 12, 2005 01:56 PM

I am not new to the world of snakes, I have been dealing with boids for several years, but I recently came across a hatchling taiwan beauty snake and thought it was beautiful,so I bought him. I was just wondering if anyone can give me info on them and/or a care sheet for them. I know about their size and what to feed, but I am looking for more info such as size and enclosure requirements. I currently keep several species of pythons including balls,JCPs and Burms,so I really would like to know if they need the heat and humidity of the pythons. Actually any info would be appreciated.

Thanks CJ

Let me just say first, beautiful carpet pythons, and I love your shirt. Beauty snake are one of my favorite rat snakes, and they aren't too hard to care for, they like it a little cooler then some snakes, high 70's low 80's, and high humidity, I can't say the exact number. They love to climb so you really should have some branches. The thing about them is they grow big FAST. My beauty has never turned down a meal, not even when blue. If yours eat regularly you can expect a six foot snake in a year. And you may have noticed this but these snake can move, nothing like pythons. They can zip around like racers. Some people say they can be nippy as hatchlings but mine never was. I hope this helps a little and heres some care sheets.

Thanks for the info, my hatchling isn't nippy either, loves attention and no biting or tail shaking like I have seen with other ratsnake hatchlings!!

Something else I've noticed thats different between her and all my other snakes is she loves to be misted. When I mist any of my other snakes they just 'run' and hide in their hideboxes. But when I mist my beauty's cage she comes out of her hide and just does laps untill I stop.

Have to agree with that. The various members of that group I have kept definitly responded well to misting.
