Why does it seem there are more Males than Females?

JEFFREH Feb 12, 2005 02:51 PM

It seems like everyone I know who owns a crestie has males. i do... Dont quote me on this but someone told me that Robbie Hamper said males occur more often than females for some unknown reason.

Are cresties somewhat temperature sexed? Not sure aboutt that either, someone mentioned in warmer conditions there are more males. But I didnt beleive them

well i dunno, i think most people who breed em try to keep more females than males generally speaking, and as far as i know the ratios of males to females for most hatchlings is around 50/50...i know you see more of the adults for sale are males rather than females because most breeders would like to keep females for breeding's sake.

To be honest, we've ended up with much more females than males during our gecko collecting. Something like two to one or better. Probably just comes down to who you're buying them from. People with the ability to "mostly" sex young animals correctly would, of course, be inclined to sell of males than females. More money can be had from a 14g unsexed Crested than a 16g male.
