the new cage i built...

flamedcrestie Feb 12, 2005 05:13 PM

well, i posted a bit ago about side effects of silicone.... i made this cage out of an old dresser i found on the street. all the drawers were very crooked but the wood was in good shape. it had 5 sliding drawers on it before.
i took all of the drawers apart and ran them down to about 3" on the table saw. then ran a 1/2" dado groove for the plexiglass to slide in. framed all the pieces of plexiglass and then lined the entire inside ( and backside of doors) with a fake wood linoleum. then waterproofed it all with aquarium sealant.
last i cut two holes in the top, screened it and framed over the top to cover the staples.
i plan on doing something similar to the sides as i did on the top if the cage humidity causes things to mold. i'll post more pictures when i get it all set up. linoleum is awesome!
total cost
4 dollars for scrap plexiglass
17 dollars for 6x9 remnant linoleum
8 bucks for hinges
9 bucks for silicone
8 bucks for matching trim
46 dollars total plus about 4 hours of my time.
lineatus are going on the left, sikorae on the right.
( sorry that the picture is blurry, and sideways haha)

any spots that have a " bump" are like that because there is an L bracket for support behind it.

You said I have not been around much recently!

Are ya glad, OR did ya MISS me, ehehehehheeh ! Hopefully ya missed me

Just been too busy to spread my LIZARDY CHEER, hahahhahaa, getting alot of lizards prepared for Breeding season, some just came out of brumation. Some have already mated

Been watching my female Henkeli, Sindar, she continues to go down and bury her behind in the sphagnum and sits, but when she leaves theres nothing there.

Driving me nuts!

Anyway I'm always around, I have been checking in and finding eveyones posts interesting. This is a favorite forum of mine

have someone who is " bubbly" and happy to talk to everyone around the forums. good luck with all of your animals and hopefully you'll get some henkeli eggs soon.

As far as my girl , is it normal for her to be going down and buring her back end and just sitting there?
She did this last week, I think it was Jason who said ignore her, but spray her while shes sitting. I have done that, but after awhile she just leaves and goes up on a branch and sleeps.

Theres nothing there I looked

i dunno i've never witnessed that. someone suggested earlier that it may be a way for them to take advantage of the humidity of the substrate...???

umop_apisdn Feb 14, 2005 08:55 AM

i've never noticed that in the few months that i've been dealing with henkeli. my female spends like 90% of her time around the top of the cage, and the new male is really the only one ive seen getting close to the bottom at night. how long has sindar been doing this? sounds about as frustrating as my male pietschmanni getting interest from the females, yet doing nothing about it!

like shes going to lay, stays awhile, and leaves. This is the second time she has done this in the last week.

Dec, 2 she layed an egg (infertile on a limb/glass)

But why I watch is last season she layed one infetile , and then went to the bottom and layed a good egg. I did not find it in time and they smashed it, I suppose when jumping to hunt.

So whenever I see her sneak down, I wait till shes gone and I search.
