skyliner Jul 07, 2003 08:48 AM

my females?I can only brumate the one male because odin is still "stressed out" and in need of some serious weight attention.Woke up this morning to this-
Let me say that i'm quietly dissapointed(yup he died).

I am sorry. How disappointing, waiting for her to lay all of her eggs without and problems, waiting for the eggs to hatch and then this.

I am so sorry.

Jason just beef them up real well and wait and brumate them this fall or winter, BE PATIENT, get them in the best shape first then think of the eggs ! That egg laying seems to take its toll on those girls, some anyway , give them a break and start fresh, your eggs will be healthier too ! Thats my opinion buddy ! Eve

but in a way it kinda tells me i'm heading in the right track,After all,All my collareds with the exception of the sonoran female are wild caught, exported to scotland and have been in quite bad shape.I have never lost a collared to "stress" related things like not eating or drinking. And i've also had my females breed without the brumation period although i suspect this could be the downfall of all the eggs i've had.All info taken on board and i think i will wait but the reason i ask is well,it's always winter here compared to their natural habitat,i actually have to use a heatmat to mimic summer temps.

Sorry to hear about that. I lost about 3 or 4 this year too. Just too weak to survive. These things happen all the time, and to everyone.

Its a term used for lizards like hybernation for the winter , if you brumate them, (keep them at cooler temps for the winter months) instead of their normal hot temps, they tend to sleep, their metabolism slows and they usually dont need to eat, they do need to be hydrated given water weekly, it helps them in the spring to be able to breed, like a rest period, also a rest for the owner as far as the cricket bills hehehehe, you can look it up to get a better more detailed answer for the proper temps when doing this and so on, but I just wanted to tell you what it was. And no it is not a dumb question, we all had those same questions when we were new here, and we sometimes have ridiculous, (dumb questions as you put it) now too so always ask, somebody here can answer, except for John Eddington hes a goofball , kidding John, LOL if ya don't know what that means its laughing out loud ,we do that all the time around here, Eve
