Trimming Nails?

dewaine Feb 12, 2005 07:47 PM

I REALLY need to trim the nails on my two year old BD. Anyone have advice on where to make the cut? I think he will sit still okay, he's pretty mello.

Use a cat nail trimmer. Dont cut the quick. If you cut the quick and it bleeds you can use a product called Quick Stop from petsmart. Silver nitrate also stops bleeding. Your local vet will probably do it for about $10. If they are extremely overgrown and curled around, the quick is probably too long and your vet should do it.

Rocks and Bricks !

trim the nails back some and get the dragon some naturaly rough bricks or rocks to bask on. my dragon has really trimmed her own nails very well when I did this...

just the climbing on to and off of the rocks started wearing off the exess nails.

at least that looks like a winner from what I see so far.

Now that's an interesting idea.. I'll have to try that, is it me or do male beardeds have sharper claws? My lord.. my female and all the others I've found have thicker claws.. sturdier, likely used to facilitate digging.. and both of my males.. as well as a few others I've found have these little needle claws.. I just got a GG from a fellow KS member and my lord.. My hands were lacerated and he drew blood from my wrist.. and he didn't do it on purpose, he was just trying to run away because he was all hot and didn't want to be with his new owner, funny little thing.

I'll have to try the rock/brick idea.. likely bricks as they're much coarser.. but that could cause chipping.. hm.. Smooth or fine? or just regular rocks? hehe.. so curious
