anyone use this plastic welder?

harlanm Feb 12, 2005 08:26 PM

i cant seem to find any consumer reviews of this welder. it seems to be a pretty good price, and its all over the internet. i have seen it as low as 119$

its an airless welder, what are the pros and cons of this?
i would be using it to weld 90deg. angles on the joints on the inside of cages. either hdpe or hdpe.

i have never used a plastic welder, but they look to me like a hot glue gun on steroids. any tips?

pasting link twice (sometimes the link url box doesnt take looong links)

That was the welder I was originally going to purchase. After talking to somebody that had used one, they said it would take 10 minutes for me to weld about a foot. No way! They said that was for small touch-up jobs. Don't think I'd put my money into it but I have never used it.

I know this was to Jason but i thought i might add 2cents for you .

Forgive me i didnt notice if there was a particular plastic you intended to use the welder on but itcan make a difference in how well the final product looks.

for most plastics a simple hot air welder will do fine . If you are planning to use a HDPP or HDPE they an be welded with air but it is recommended that you use a nitrogen gas as the air supply as the hot aire welder burn so hot the nitrogen keeps it cooler when not being used and also works better for the two plastics i mentioned above. I agree with what Jason said you will spend ALOT of time welding with the one you linked to .i to looked into that welder and spoke to a few plastic guys i know and they told me " you get what ya pay for in a welder"

www.usplastic.com
www.abbeon.com

are two sites that have good welders , if its a one time or just here n there you could sufice with the cheaper versions but to create good steady flowing welds you will need to fork up the cash for a higher end welder and a self feed tip is almost a must .
