gpmatt08 Feb 12, 2005 09:14 PM

I was just wondering what kind of vitamin supplements I should be giving my crested, Im only giving him vitamin d3 and calcuim now. Is this bad? Also im only able to get him about 8 crickets a month will this stunt his growth? Any comments are welcome.

Are you feeding a meal replacement? If you not and just feeding 8 items a month it will not stunt id say more like kill it....

I hope you are feeding it crested gecko diet? if all it is receiving is 8 crickets a month and baby food (which everyone says is like candy)i think it could stunt its growth or even cause malnutrition for lack of protein. just my thoughts

explain the diet a bit better. if you're feeding it crested gecko diet (which i and many other people highly reccommend) then 8 crickets a month that are dusted will be fine. it will not grow quite as fast as if it had more crickets but will be perfectly healthy.

If I need to get my crested on some ccg should I mix it with baby food at first. Ive tried to switch it over to ccg but he wont even try it.

Thanks

I personaly have no experience switching animals over from baby food to crested gecko diet. i Know Anthony has (it says so on his webpage) most of the information i have read says that you need to ease it over. so over a month or so perhaps add a little bit more and more of the gecko diet to the baby food until it is replaced fully. also i think the animal will start to eat it simply out of hunger. by no means am i a final word on this as like i have said i am only giving advice based on what i have heard. i know when i start to supply the gecko diet i am going to offer it every night. i think this will be helpfull in ensureing the animal has access to it during its feeding times. I have seen many people use those mini disposable sample cups that you get at a deli or baskin robins and simply throw them out after one or two uses. if you have only one or two animals it would probably be more efficient to keep a small dish that you clean regularly. anyways just my thoughts.

Also you might want to scour these forums for old posts on the issue as i am sure there are a few out there

it took only about 2 weeks to switch them over. i started out 1 babyfood:1water:1cgd
they took to that right away
by the end of the 2 weeks i was just adding a very little bit of baby food. now i never feed them babyfood and all eat it great.

i have found that usualy if i present liquid food infront of the animal they proceed to lick off some. this would be a way to make sure it is getting some of the food. i have even handled the animal and done this. they usually lick off any food that is placed on the lips in this manner. try it and see if you get it to eat any of the mix.

i would definately agree. that is how i helped convert all of mine to cgd. just make sure they don't become used to this and you should only do it to get them started.
