Not so great pic of my cage.

scarletmoon Feb 12, 2005 09:25 PM

I bought some vinyl tiles today to make my male's cage a bit more 'natural' looking instead of the stark white paper towel I was using before. I couldn't find tile that exactly matched my hide but the ones I ended up with, don't look too bad. All I need to get now is an air plant to mount to the hide and then I'm done fiddling with this cage. It's a 20 gallon long if anybody is interested.

hey can you post how to make that hide again. i know you did before but i cant remember. thanks a lot.

The dome shapes that you see are outdoor polystyrene faucet covers. If you slightly hollow out the one dome that will sit over your warm side, you can fit one of those Glad dispossable tuperwares in it to make a humid hide. The other dome just has a hole in it to make a cool hide.

They are joined together by pieces of polystyrene that are hot glued together. After you get the shape you are looking for, I melt down the hard edges to give it a smoother look and then I use a rasp to file down the knobby parts. After that I spray it with the faux rock spray paint in a light color. Now you can make the hide any color you wish with acrylic paint. I use two different browns and black some gold/yellowish color that I dab on with a sponge because you don't want to completely cover the light colored rock paint.

After that's dry I seal it with an acrylic sealer that is safe to use on childrens toys and such. It smells really bad so I leave it to cure for a week or so.

Give me a shout if I you need more help.
