Thanks .... Now just one more question about snout damage

coyote9th Feb 12, 2005 09:57 PM

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for the advice. I raised the temps and separated the two I have been worried about. She, the one who I was most worried about, has been eating normally again. They frollick in the tub together, but that'll be the extent of their relationship.

The smaller one has now taken to running up and down the tank and trying to get out. What she's doing is new to her, but I knew it would come at some point ... or just figured it would. Does anyone have any advice on how to prevent them from snout damaging themselves? The biggest one is in a wire cage and his has healed, although it'll always look damaged. The two who are in a 55 gallon glass aquarium is who I'm trying to prevent imposing damage to themselves.

Any success stories?

Thanks!

Some people paste about 4" of paper around the bottom of the cage. I used suction cups vines from the pet store across the front of mine. We used tempera paint (which can be removed with water) on one. You can use marker or wax to mark lines or "X's" across the bottom. I tend to recommend temporary solutions. Once mine recognized that they weren't going through the glass they quit and the stuff can be removed (in case you ever want to use the cage for aomething else).

you need some sort of visual barrier along the bottom of the cage. at like 5 or so inches, theyll climb up and try to go over, but wont be rubbing their nose.
my tank has mineral deposits on the glass in addition to visual barriers, and they are able to see these deposits.
