An amelanistic Earth Snake is a tough act to follow, but.......

I guess we must take what small triumphs we can. Last year, an associate of mine hatched some eggs laid by a w/c Regal Ringneck, and gave me one of the hatchlings. The little predator ate some baby Banded Geckos vountarily before being brumated. It did not get very cold this einter, and most of the snakes stayed a bit too active for my taste, so I removed some from brumation last week. Today, the hatchling Regal ate his (her?) first scented defrosted pink mouse. With luck, the snake will eat nothing but mice from now on until the end, may that be a long time coming. This could be an opportunity to know a Regal from start to finish, and maybe even produce a captive F1 generation, since gravid females do turn up now and then, and perhaps another captive hatched baby could be paired with this one.

Congrats Kim!

I wouldn't of guessed a little regal would be able to take down a pinky mouse so soon. Glad to hear he is doing good, the little one I got from John passed on before winter, from some kind of stomach problem.

Good luck with the little guy...

Mike

Check out this pic I took, 2 northern ringneck snakes compared to the regal hatchling. 1 of the northerns is a yearling, and one is a 3 year old, the regal was 5 months old, if that. The regal is on the ruler.
