Some Western Coachwhip milestones

kw53 Feb 13, 2005 01:48 PM

Congrats on getting that Eastern Coachwhip going. Always fun to see pix of the little demons...that face! They always look cheesed off....

My Eastern hatchlings are still brumating, after a dismal start last fall, during which period they ate very little voluntarily, and ended up being forced rat tail sections before brumating. The infamous killer red Westerns from Sighthunter are out of brumation, and the female has taken up where she left off, killing her first fuzzy of the season on Friday. The male who accepted live fuzzies last fall showed no interest, and the male who ate only lizards last fall likewise.

My Eastern hasn't been cooled and continues to take anoles with a little bit of teasing. I only got him to take a scented pink once, but am sure I'll be able to switch him over eventually. This week (not the photo) he took what I would consider a full grown anole. That makes anole shopping easier, but no less expensive.

Baby easterns love baby garter snakes. Scent with one or scent with the musk from one. They switch to rodents later pretty easily. Good Luck.

Oh, I forgot. Also take a pink and rince the domestic scent off it. Take a cricket or better yet, a wild grasshopper, and smush it and rub the goo on the pink. Pinch the pinks leg and throw it in. Often the insect scent and the injured pink equals a fattened baby coachwhip. And often a dead pink just laying there works also. Good Luck. Also freeze an anole or frog and you can sent with it for a year if necessary. Same goes with a garter snake.

Awsome Job!!! It is nice to see my babys doing so well. You have done what few have been able to do, well done. You will start to see red this year and it will get better with each shed.
