mroberts Feb 13, 2005 03:48 PM

I noticed that the branches at the petstore for like 20 bucks are or at leat apear to be the same thing I can get out of my yard for free,
can I use them or is it harmful??
do I have to 'cook' the branches?
if so how long and at what temp??
can i just soak it in bleach and soak it in delorinater??

You really shouldn't have any problems. I usually do bake them, 10-15 minutes at 275 or so. Don't use any bleach though

I really wouldn't. You can bake it, fry it, bleach it and I still don't think you would get rid of all of the nasties. Its very tempting, but if you have species which are not indenginous to North America I don't think it would be a good idea. There are species of trees which have toxic wood, and pine trees leak sap even after the brach has fallen. If your comfortable with it then do it, but I have seen frogs die from people doing this at my hospital.
