Has anyone seen a chameleon biting on the branch? Just today my panther got into this new thing and I don't remember reading about such behavior anywhere. What's the reason behind it?

Has anyone seen a chameleon biting on the branch? Just today my panther got into this new thing and I don't remember reading about such behavior anywhere. What's the reason behind it?
Is he actually biting the branch or is he licking it? Sometimes a cham in a new environment will taste test perches to pick up trace odors of other chams that might have been there. You may have noticed that some chams rub their vent on perches after pooping. It does leave a scent mark. A new cham who is feeling intimidated in a new territory may check for possible competitors this way.
He is actually biting the branch and has been in this cage for almost a year now. It is kind of funny watching him do it but should I be concern? As an over all he acts normal and started to shed again.
I guess I don't know why he's doing this. Doesn't sound bad, maybe just a quirk.
I have heard of this....and it was panther chameleons
that I heard did it.
Can't give you a reason why though.
