Did you mean carambola or Indian star fruit?
Actualy, it doesn't matter...they are both fine.
If you are feeding the carambola fruit, I have found that RFs only like the really sweet varieties. The more tart ones they are not too fond of.

One of mine love 'em and the other hates 'em. I guess it is a taste thing! The one who loves them will ignore all other foods that I put out with him if there is any starfruit in sight.

starfruit is pretty high in oxalic acid
its part of the name

and since we know the deleterious effects of oxalic acid on the calcium metabolism i think i'd avoid star fruit unless some new info was to come to light:

www.crfg.org/pubs/ff/carambola.html

It is of course this acid which give sit its characteristic bite similar to that of other high oxylate foods such as rhubarb, spinach, swiss chard. The amount of the acid present depends upon the ripeness of the fruit and the strain from which it was grown.
If you personally taste it and it doesn't seem very sour (or "tart" but it seems pretty sweet that it probably contains more ascorbic acid than oxalic acid and therefore is a better choice for atortoise.
