questions on a new cham

schwartzenstobe Feb 13, 2005 06:52 PM

i just got a new jackson and he is about 4 months old. i had some questions on acclimating him to his new surroundings. i have limited contact with him. only just to water him 2-3 times a day. what is the rule of thumb for offring food? i have heard a few people sy to wait a couple days? he is in a 3x2x2 cage with an exo terra 5.o his basking spot is 80 to 85 and the ambient temp is about 75-77. i am having trouble with the night time temps the lowest i have gotten it is 72-75 is that to warm. i have wax worms, crickets mealies and superworms. i have been gut loading them for about a month prior to getting him. i have a dripper that runs twice a day and he definately drinks. thanks and sorry so long.also i set up a humidifier that runs for 15 minutes every hour.

There is no reason not to offer food. He'll either eat it or he won't. As for the nighttime temps, that is warm, so you'll need to find some way to cool the cage off. Can you open a window in this room for a while in the evening? Close the heat vent or radiator in the room at night? You could spray the cage down very well and run a small fan near the cage to evaporate and cool it down. Or, put blue ice packs on the cage top...the cool air will drop down into the cage.

Where do you live? In a warm area or a cold one?
