an ideal set up would be a large tank, helga and hugo live in a 4'x18x13 tank. i wish it were bigger but it was all i could afford at the time. also they need a basking spot at about 120 degrees with a temp gradient going to the low 90s/upper 80s on the cool side. it is good to have a hide spot on the warm and cool end of the cage. substrate is kind of debatable. some people go with playsand, others with a sand and soil mix and others with birdseed (without sunflower seeds). i say go with something digable because helga and hugo are forever scratching around in their cage (they have no substrate because helga has feet problems). the hidespots should be low so that when they enter it, the top touches their backs. i have plant pot saucers flipped upside down with a hole cut into them and they love them.
the sponsered links at the top of the uro page are really good. deerfernfarms.com is really easy to read and a great source of information

Here you go. Go to the following link from Deer Fern Farms. This will tell you just about everthing you need to know. I have followed Doug's instructions with great success. I also recommend you check out his supplies page since he has tested everything he sells, and the stuff works. If you shop prices, you'll also see that he is competitive.

good luck!
