Proven biter...

Antegy Feb 13, 2005 10:32 PM

This little guy is has proven himself to be a biter! He bites me when I go to pick him up, but once I have him he is completely fine. BUT, if he doesn't want to be moved at any point while he's out he lets me know - by giving me a BITE!

Right now I think it's funny, because he's so small that his bite can't even break the skin. I just hope he grows out of it before he's big enough to put a good chomping on me!

Here's the biter...

Thanks for looking,
- Mark

What I mean is that in time he may become so docile and mellow that you may long for the days of extra spirit and feisty behavior.

Typically, Mex Blacks become VERY tame, as you probably know. Mine tamed right away as a hatchling, in less than a year he trusted me completely. (Frequent handling, and I have much experience.) At times he was a bit squeamish and I would have liked even more of a spirited nature.

There are always individuals, however, who defy the rules of their class. Your could be quite spirited and nippy for life, only time will tell. I've known of others with Mex Blacks that had to be exchanged due to mean behavior - but they were usually wild-caught. (Hello!)

My money? That by year 2-3 at the latest, he's one mellow guy who is slightly less active and feisty than the average Cal King.
