IN MY OPINION your leos are a little skinny.
Maybe you should feed them more and wait for them to fatten up before breeding.
My kalypso weighs in at almost 80 grams.
Just an opinion, take it or leave it. But those leo's need more food.

Hello I just wanted to thank you for looking at my pictures. I would just like to asure you that my geckos eat all that they want. The first gecko Tweaker was 50 grams on 2-5-05 after laying eggs the day before. On 2-13-05 she was 53 grams. I believe those are acceptable breeding sizes. The 2nd picture is Pumpkin one of my males. My youngest male infact, on 2-13-05 he weighed 50 grams, gaining 1 gram from the week before. I must admist typically my males dont grow much during breeding season. This is one of my other males a couple yrs older at about 68 grams I think
Those could be acceptable breeding weights. But to me they look a little undernourished.
Kalypso's just a fat ass. Although if you would like to bulk yours up a little, you can always give wax worms.
That's all Kalypso will eat during the winter season. Then during Spring, summer and fall she goes back on crix and mealworms.
Some people have different opinions on feeding a Leo wax worms all the time like they are addictive, but I've never had a problem switching her from wax to meal worms or wax to crix ever.
I also gutload my wax worms with a special formula that I make.
She loves them. I don't just give her the wax worms, I also give my bearded and my bro's bearded some as treats (taking them out and holding them or bathing them, if you give a bearded or any animal a treat afterwards it teaches them that if they are good while out they will always be rewarded, it's a postive experience). They love them also.

My geckos are all fed crickets mealworms superworms and sometimes waxworms and sometimes pinkies. I gutload all of my insects and dust them as needed i breed my own meal worms, I even breed the food for my snakes. My geckos are at acceptable weights, during the breeding seaons, it is very hard to keep weight up. I work very hard to keep everyone at safe weights and if they fall below that line they r done untill next year. Yes your gecko is very large. waxworms should never form the staple diet of a leo even for the winter months. They are very fatty and dont offer much more. someone once called them twinkies for leos. You cant live on twinkies, but if u sat around and ate them all winter i bet u would gain weight, cant say it would be good but ud tip the scales a bit more lol

Well I take her out everyday at least once, with the exception of when I'm sick, then someone else takes her out and she gets to roam around my room.
It depends on the person you get your info from. Some people only raise their leo's on waxworms. Some only raise them on super worms, meal worms or crickets.
She does very well on them. I wasn't criticizing you, I just stated what I saw, that they look a little skinny. But of course it could just be breeding season.
Not a personal attack, just a statement.
Like I said, take it or leave it.

I realize you are not attacking me, nor I you. I take great pride in my animals, on top of that i love them. Though until now i have never heard of such a thing, I geuss its possible that someone has raised a leo on a diet of only waxworms. Just as im sure you could raise a person on a diet of twinkies. doing it and it being healthy are not the same things.

One key term is involved in all things that leo's get: Gutload.
You gutload meal, super and wax worms that you give to your leo.
I have a special made formula I put in the waxworms I give her during the winter that contain all the necesscary vitamins, minerals and nutrients that a leopard gecko needs.
She also has a little dish of calcium available to her 24/7 365. She gets fresh water daily. I clean her tank every 3 days and change the substrate in her moist hide every 2.
She does just fine on all waxworms during the winter.

Im glad to hear youre taking good care of your leo. I really wasnt saying anything other than that the practice of feeding only wax worms, until now was unheard of to me. Before today everything ive ever read said the oppisite of what you say, but hey if it works for you run with it. But if you could, could you tell me all of the things needed to be put into something for the complete leo diet, i am ignorant to this magic program.

I'd be glad to help you out.
Leo's eat wax, meal and super worms and crickets. If you want to ensure your leo is getting enough clacium you can put a little dish of calcium powder/dust in there for him/her to eat.
Fresh water is a must of course. I sometimes just to be sure she is getting calcium, dust the crickets and meal worms when she eats them. You can gutload your worms, you can use carrots and a few choice vegetables to feed the worms, then give them to your leo (the worms not the veggies, lol).
Waxworms are nice treats. If you have a not-so-nice leo then you could try taking it out and then if it is good give it a waxworm at the end of it's outing to show it that being out and being good make a good response, getting a fat waxworm as a treat is terrific positive re-inforcement. I have personally been using that while working with my bearded and my brothers bearded dragons ( who are sort of moody this time of year, breeding season).
