interesting cage, is that some sort of bird cage or small mammal wire cage? With wood around the outside of the wire?

Curious as to why you used wire if you covered it up?

i knew someone with a good eye would ask that question. thank you. you are correct, it is a large bird cage. I am constantly building and designing various cages in order to find the best housing for each specific species i have. it is a constant and on going project. I have had very good luck with this design. I cut the wire front and top off. Put removable panels on one side and the back and a bamboo wall on the other side. the front has two glass doors top and bottom with melamite dividing floor. this floor is made of 2 pieces of wood, the main floor that stops about 6 inches from the front of the cage. there is another board across that front gap that is removeable. the bottom only has a deep dirt substrate and a red heat lamp. When i want to allow them access to the "nesting area" i can simply remove that front floor board. I really like the wiring because they use it to climb all over the cage (except for the top which is wood so they cannot climb upside down and gain access to the 200 w halogen heat lamp. The bamboo wall on the side allows for some air flow in the winter when i have the side panels on, and in the summer when i take the panels off and take it outside for fresh air and sunshine, the top and bamboo wall privides shaded areas. all in all i am very happy with it and will probably make some more for some of my prasinus and mccrae.
